U should just setup ur return analysis as an attribution analysis to determine what strategies have worked best for u. Kinda fruitless to say the best companies in a category perform just like the peer group when the macro moves. Typcially good business always create wealth and that is what the key determinant should be for allocating capital. Otherwise u are just guessing at an investment hypothesis that u have no competitiv advantage on. I like your short thesis bbecuase u are saying – how can this business fail and look at core values. Phase 3 shorts is like gambling, so why would ever try it out.

The real catalyst to this was an editor at Forbes suggesting that my writing was too bloggy. I don’t like Forbes much, but the editor did have a point. So I archived all my posts, got rid of any distracting pictures, changed the text to make it more readable and put more effort into new posts.

As far as my article on Mattress Firm, that is actually one of the pieces that I put a lot of effort into and I really like it…. just wish I had waited to write it. One of these days I’ll repost anything that wasn’t just a blurb here.

I am not sure this is a journalism versus blogging issue. You have deleted your history, not altered your future. There is a difference.

I was looking for your article on Mattress Ferm[sic], and I am disappointed it is now gone. I am quite sure that is not a good thing.

I woke up one day and realized I didn’t want to be writing blog posts—I wanted to write some good journalism. My thinking should be organized better and the articles should be very detailed.

Actually I had this feeling a couple times but never did anything about it. Now all the old stuff is in “draft” status… not sure what I’m going to do with them.
